Covered bridges and the scenic bikeway in Cottage Grove

Cottage Grove is known for its covered bridges. Wikipedia says the city calls itself the "Covered Bridge Capital of The West," with six covered bridges nearby, five of them on the National Register of Historic Places.

The bridges

The Oregon Department of Transportation's TripCheck site describes a Cottage Grove Covered Bridge Tour of about 20 miles around town. It lists seven stops: Dorena Bridge, Stewart Bridge, Mosby Creek Bridge, Currin Bridge, Chambers Railroad Bridge, Centennial Bridge and a Swinging Bridge. The count depends on whether you include the pedestrian Swinging Bridge, so you will see six and seven both in print.

Two details from Wikipedia are worth knowing. The Chambers Railroad Bridge is described as the only existing covered railroad bridge west of the Mississippi River, and it was restored in 2011. The Mosby Creek Bridge dates to 1920, and the Bureau of Land Management says it sits just off the Row River Trail.

The Covered Bridges Scenic Bikeway

Travel Oregon lists the Covered Bridges Scenic Bikeway as a 36-mile ride rated mild, starting in downtown Cottage Grove, where parking is available at Bohemia Park or the Community Center. The Row River Trail part is smoothly paved and open only to people on foot and on bikes, and Travel Oregon puts it at 17 miles along the north side of Dorena Lake. The Bureau of Land Management describes the trail itself as about 14 miles, so published lengths differ a little. Check the Travel Oregon page for the current route and maps. Parts of the route share the road with cars.
